Welcome, Hawks August 10th, 2026

Back to School Information

Mesa Families!

School starts this Thursday and we want to make sure you have all of the information you need to start the year.

First Days

Schedule

The first bell rings at 8:01 and students are in class by 8:05. Students will have all 7 classes on Thursday and Friday of this week and will be done at 2:28. Starting August 17th, all Monday classes begin at 9:05 and go until 2:28.

Drop Off, Pick Up, and Bright Futures

Students may be dropped off after 7:35AM in the main parking lot which is when staff starts supervision. If you need to drop off earlier than 7:35 or your student is taking the early morning bus, your student must be registered for Before School Bright Futures. You can register by clicking here. If your student is registered for Before School Bright Futures, they can be dropped off between 6:00 and 7:35 and will go directly to the Bright Futures Room (204).

You may pick up your student after school in the main parking lot or along Mesa's side of Halcyon Rd. Mesa does not have a crossing guard. Therefore, students may not be picked up across Halcyon Rd. Students must be picked up by 3PM. Any students needing to stay beyond 3 PM must be registered in After School Bright Futures and can be registered at the same link above.

Please expect traffic in the first several weeks of school, especially if you are planning to pick your student up right at 2:28. Waiting to pick up between 2:35 and 3:00 alleviates much of this traffic and is very much appreciated!

Students taking the bus right after school will be assisted with finding the correct buses for the first several days of school.

The school site is not responsible for bus passes. If you have questions about bus passes, bus routes, etc. please contact transportation at 805-474-3100.

Materials and Supplies

Students will be given notebooks, binders, and a planner. Chromebooks and chargers will be given to transfers and 7th graders during the first full week of school.

If you are able, please make sure your student comes to school with pens, pencils, binder paper, glue stick, and highlighters. If you need assistance with school supplies, please complete this form.

PE clothes are not needed for the first week and a half of school. They can be purchased through the PE teachers during that time with cash or a check made out to "Mesa Middle School." PE clothes are mandatory and may consist of:

  • Mesa PE shirt ($15) or plain gray athletic t-shirt (no logos, designs, etc.)
  • Mesa PE shorts ($15) or plain black soccer or basketball shorts or plain black sweatpants (no logos, designs, etc. Running shorts and leggings are prohibited due to stretching, yoga, and other physical activity).
  • Mesa PE shirt and shorts combo ($25)
  • Optional Mesa PE sweatshirt ($25)
  • Optional Mesa PE sweatpants ($25)
  • Hawk Bundle includes all of the above ($65)

Food and Drinks

Breakfast and lunch are free for all students. Breakfast is given during Advisory. On days where there is not an Advisory class, breakfast is available during break.

As middle schoolers are growing tweens and teens, they might need snacks on top of the breakfast and lunch provided. You may pack individualized sized snacks for your child that can be eaten during break, lunch, and passing period. Due to an ongoing ant problem and brand new carpet installation, only water is allowed to be consumed in classrooms. It is recommended that students bring a water bottle to school. We have a refillable water station on campus.

Parents and family members are allowed to drop off an individual lunch for their student in the office. Students can pick up their food from the office during break or lunch. Delivery services (eg. DoorDash, Uber Eats, pizza delivery) are prohibited and food will be sent back with the delivery service.

Hawks are RRad!

RRad

You'll often hear at Mesa that Hawks are RRad! The two RRs stand for Respectful and Responsible. To help our Hawks start on a RRad foot, here is information on some of our basic expectations:

Cell Phones and Other Electronics

All electronics including but not limited to cell phones, headphones, earbuds, smart watches, and Meta glasses, are to be off and away in the student's backpack for the day. This includes before school and during break, lunch, and passing periods. Students may turn their phones on after school. It is important to note that students are not allowed to utilize their phones during Bright Futures or after school tutoring. Mesa is not responsible for items that are lost or stolen. It is recommended that valuables are kept at home.

Violations of Cell Phone (technology) Policy:

  • 1st violation -  As all students should know the policy, there is no warning for a violation. The cell phone may be confiscated and held in the office. The student may pick up the phone after school.
  • 2nd violation -  The cell phone may be confiscated and held in the office. Only the parent/guardian will be allowed to pick-up the phone.
  • 3rd violation -  The cell phone may be confiscated and held in the office. Only the parent/guardian will be allowed to pick-up the phone. The student will lose privileges of being in possession of any cell phone on campus for a week.
  • 4th violation - The cell phone may be confiscated and held in the office. Only the parent/guardian will be allowed to pick-up the phone. The student will lose privileges of being in possession of any cell phone on campus for a month.
  • 5th violation - The cell phone may be confiscated and held in the office. Only the parent/guardian will be allowed to pick-up the phone. The student will lose privileges of being in possession of any cell phone for the rest of the school year.

If earbuds/headphones are confiscated, the student's cell phone is also confiscated.
