Hello Mesa Students and Families! My name is Sarah Ensign, and this is my 9th year as an education specialist at Mesa. I have two awesome kids, a great husband, and a puppy named Moose. This year, I will be teaching Language Arts and Academic Seminar, two of my favorite classes. In our language arts class, we use a curriculum called Read180. Read180 is a class designed for students who want to improve and increase their reading ability. The program is designed to meet individual needs in reading and writing skills. In addition, students will learn a variety of strategies for both reading and learning. I have had a ton of success with this program, and I am very excited to see the progress we can make together!Academic Seminar is an elective course that is intended to help students develop habits that support their academic success and executive functioning. Academic Seminar will emphasize topics such as organization, goal setting, study habits, and self-advocacy. This will be a place for students to not only participate in lessons that will teach academic skills, but also get support on assignments from other classes.
I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

Hello Mesa Students and Families! My name is Kyle Pierson and this is my 16th year as an educator and my fourth year as an education specialist at Mesa Middle School. When I am not teaching, you will most likely find me at the beach kayaking, paddle boarding, or fishing. I also love to garden. I love to share all of these hobbies with my wonderful wife and daughter. This year I will be teaching two sections of Math, U.S. History, Science, and Teen Skills. My two math classes this year (one 7th grade and one 8th grade) will focus on teaching the foundations that all 7th and 8th grade students need in order to build the skills necessary to be successful at a high school level. Each class will be tailored, accommodated and modified to meet the needs of all of my students. We Will aim high to meet all of our goals! U.S. History will be our main focus for the first semester of the year. As a class we will travel back in time and start our year traveling the 13 colonies, while working ahead to the Civil Rights Movement. Science will be our focus during the second semester. As a class we will explore the life sciences. During the semester we will focus on ecosystems, animals and plants.Teen Skills will focus on life skills, community service, and social emotional learning. I am very much looking forward to a wonderful year! Go Hawks!!!!

Hello Mesa Students and Families! Welcome to Room 75! My name is Alex Kirker. This is my third year at Mesa Middle School. Throughout my first two years, I am still looking to find my stride in what hopefully is my first “normal year.” Throughout these strange past few years I have developed and renewed old interests like fishing and golf which has been a blast. Over the Summer, I was fortunate enough to be able to safely travel to various locations to soak up sun rays in Mexico, sit in 100 plus degree weather more times than I would have liked, as well as visit my brother in Denver for a few days.

For those returning, we battled through a tough year together and made the best of a rough situation seeing most of you either online or in class for a few hours. This year, I look forward to seeing your faces full time in person and developing new relationships with students and parents. This year, I plan on continuing to find new outlets that will effectively support our students in developing their academic, social, life, and vocational skills. While the start of this year may be a feeling out process to get comfortable returning to our old normal, know that we are in this together and if there is anything you need, please feel free to contact me via email at alex.kirker@lmusd.org . Once this contact has been made, we can then exchange phone numbers and discuss preferred forms of communication.

I look forward to meeting you all and finding our rhythm as a team for a successful year for room 75!
