Rm. 21

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to my site. I'm Mr. Reeves and I've been a Science teacher at Mesa for 23 years now. Maybe I've taught some of your relatives? I teach 7th grade Science and I'm also the VEX Robotics coach for 7th and 8th graders and the Chess club advisor.

Who is Mr. Reeves...

I grew up in Los Angeles, but left for college and never went back. My college degree is in Biology with a concentration in Entomology, which is the study of insects. Bugs are easy to study because they're everywhere! Fun fact- ants make up 15% of the mass of all animals on Earth! My hobbies are surfing, gardening, travelling, photography, and anything else that will get me outdoors. I live in Nipomo with my wonderful wife, daughter, and son. Also, I love science and teaching. I grew up in a science household with a mom as a high school Biology teacher. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, as they say.

In July 2023 we hiked the Zion narrows. We went three miles up the river and I thought it was the highlight of my Summer.

My family went to Alaska in June 2022 and took a boat trip to see glaciers. They were amazing!

This is me snorkeling off the island of Lanai in Hawaii in July 2021.

One of our hens is raising chicks! This is the first time we have ever done this. Usually we buy chicks. What an exciting process!

So what are we going to learn about in 7th grade Science?

In 7th grade Science students will learn about topics in Chemistry, Earth Science, and Biology.

FAQ for Science

1. How can I get help in Science? Good question. You can talk with me before or after class, or during a break in class. Also, you can email me. I’m here to help you succeed.

2. What is your Make-Up Work policy? It depends on the semester. First semester I don’t take off late points on regular assignments. Second semester I do and my policy is one letter grade lower on the assignment for each day that you see me and you haven't turned in the assignment. However, I do take late points off for all projects, no matter the time of year. Of course, if a student is absent and turns in work in a timely manner, I never take off late points.

3. What is your grading policy? I grade using the standard scale. See my syllabus for more details on that. Students should only check Aeries to see their grade in my class, not Google Classroom. In my classes, Google Classroom is where assignments are turned in and Aeries is for posting grades on those assignments.

4. Why is my grade low and what can I do about it? The number one reason for low grades is not turning in work. Missing assignments show up as a red box on Aeries, so it’s easy to spot. If you want to raise your grade then do the missing work and email me to let me know that I need to grade it. Once all assignments are in and if you still want to raise your grade, then do the extra credit assignments that I offer.

And how can I check grades?
